$7m payout to fire heroes' kin -

Senior fire officer Siu Wing-fong, 46, and fire officer Chan Siu-lung, 25, died from smoke inhalation as they battled to save residents trapped in a blazing Mong Kok tower block on August 10.

Chan's family have been granted a record HK$3.78 million while Siu's wife and 12-year-old daughter will get HK$3.15 million under the government's "financial assistance scheme for family members of those who sacrificed their lives to save others."

The youngest in his family, Chan is survived by his parents, a brother and two sisters.
