Break your Fast Al Desko Way
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, it’s also often the most neglected. But you don’t necessarily have to skip out on your morning meal to be at work on time—here are your best bets for “grab-n-go” meals you can enjoy and wake up to back at the office.
The Cha Chaan Teng
Sui Kee
Local cafés offer a slew of breakfast items you can take away in a
small baggie and the best thing about them is, no matter where your
office is, there’s bound to be a decent one nearby. Sui Kee at the
Sheung Wan market has friendly service (the last thing you need in the
morning is a rude, smartass waiter to ruin your day), dirt-cheap prices
and, most importantly, wicked food. The golden-brown, egg-soaked French
toast is fried to crunchy perfection on the outside but remains light
and fluffy on the inside, and it gets a little easier to function in
the morning with every butter-and-syrup-doused bite. The toasted
sandwiches are the other stars of Sui Kee’s breakfast show and they
come with a generous pile of filling, whether it’s fried egg, corned
beef or luncheon meat. Order a cup of their famous silky-smooth milk
tea on your way out and there you have it—a no-fuss and yummy western
breakfast, Hong Kong-style. Shop CF17, 2/F, Sheung Wan Municipal
Services Building, Queen’s Rd., Sheung Wan.
The Burger Joint
Monster Burger
The breakfast burger is a beautiful thing but if you’re tired of the
same old egg McMuffin, give Monster Burger’s morning sandwiches a try.
The Admiralty branch of Monster Burger offers four breakfast options
from 8am until 11am, the most popular being the make-your-own-burger
selection. We chose the cheese, lettuce, pepper ham and scrambled egg
combo on multigrain. The wholesome sandwich tasted like an American
breakfast in portable form and was satisfyingly delicious. And for an
average of $25, which includes a free hot or cold drink, Monster
Burger’s breakfast sets are really something worth smiling about in the
early morn. D2-D3, UG/F, Far East Finance Centre, 16 Harcourt Rd.,
Admiralty, 2865-6680.
