All major pro-government groups now boycotting Legco by-elections. File photo.


The pro-Beijing Federation of Trade Unions has joined the Liberal Party and the DAB in boycotting the Legco by-elections triggered by the resignation of five pan-democrats.



The latest move means that all the major pro-government groups won't be taking part. The federation's president, Cheng Yiu-tong, described the polls as an abuse of taxpayers money. The legislators who've stepped down plan to use the by-elections as a de-facto referendum on universal suffrage.
