The Asia 1 Minute Film Festival democratizes filmmaking by encouraging anyone to participate even if they have never picked up a camera before.

Registration is free and videos made with any equipment that records moving images, including mobile phones, digital cameras, and computer animation, is all accepted, opening up the possibilities to amateurs and novices.

The concept first picked up in Brazil in 1991; the international version of the festival now reaches nearly 20 countries. It is the first time that an Asia festival is being held and it is based out of Hong Kong.

There are six categories for the Asia festival, including "RemakeHK" sponsored by Videotage which encourages contestants to remix creative work by old artists to (re)construct the hidden cultural history of Hong Kong. See the festival website's rules page to see what kind of legal points to look out for when using other people's work.
