Taiwan tops film awards at Golden Horse festival

Taiwanese director Chang Tso-chi collected his second best picture award.


The 47th Golden Horse Film Festival held its awards ceremony Saturday night in Taiwan, with Best Film, Best Director, Best Leading Actor and Best Supporting Actress all going to Taiwanese productions, making the event more like a local celebration, despite nominations including filmmakers and productions from the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong.



Juan Ethan from Taiwan who starred in Taiwanese gangster blockbuster Monga won Best Leading Actor, defeating front-runner mainland actor Wang Xueqi from Bodyguards and Assassins.

Best Feature Film went to Taiwanese small-budgeted film When Love Comes, leaving Hong Kong's Bodyguards and Assassins with only Best Makeup and Best Costume Design despite a total of nine nominations.

Taiwanese film The Fourth Portrait also did well, with Chung Mong-Hong scoring Best Director, Hao Lei Best Supporting Actress and the film, Outstanding Taiwanese Film of the Year.

The mainland's Lü Liping won Best Leading Actress for City Monkey, Xu Fan from After-shock had been the hot favorite.
