Sixty years of diplomatic ties celebrated in Chennai


Chennai, 23 July, (Asiantribune): Sixty years of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and India was celebrated in Chennai. The celebrations reflected the sprit good neighbourly relationship between the two countries.



In continuation of celebrating 60th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Sri Lanka ‘Sri Lankan Film Festival’ has been organised yesterday by the Sri Lanka Deputy High Commission, Indo Cine Appreciation Foundation and The Madras Film Society in association with Federation of Film Societies of India (Central Office).

Distinct from previous film festivals, this festival is significant as it is held to celebrate 60 years of Diplomatic Relations between Sri Lanka and India and to rejoice in the fact that the two countries have enjoyed diplomatic ties since independence, which is indeed a landmark occasion.

Sri Lanka’s Deputy High Commissioner, Mr. P. M. Amza delivering his address at the inauguration of the ‘Sri Lankan Film Festival’ which was organised by the Sri Lanka Deputy High Commission, Indo Cine Appreciation Foundation and The Madras Film Society in association with Federation of Film Societies of India (Central Office).

The film festival, which was inaugurated by Sri Lanka’s Deputy High Commissioner, P. M. Amza in the midst of an illustrious and celebrity gathering, including K. Kannan who presided over the function and Guests of Honour, S. Rengarajan, popular actor, Srikanth and his wife, Mrs. Vandana, Sivasakthi Pandian, Secretary of the Tamil Film Producers Council and cine artist, Ms. Swapna, in his address on the occasion emphasised the close relations shared by Sri Lanka and India.
