It was literally the natural resources-rich Orissa's tryst with technical education when chief minister Mr Naveen Patnaik laid the foundation stone for the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bhubaneswar at Kansapada near Jatni today.

Union minister for human resources development Mr Arjun Singh was slated to do the honours, but he failed to turn up due to ‘unavoidable circumstances’ and the CM did the needful.

In fact, the ceremony was scheduled for yesterday and with Mr Singh unable to make it on time, the programme as deferred for today hoping that the Union minister would lay the foundation stone for the prestigious technical institute.

“It is a day of glory. The almost half-century old dream and demand of the people of the state has materialised today with the foundation stone laying,” said chief minister Mr Patnaik.
