The Real Reasons Behind Why Men Hate Condoms - health - sex - condom

A recent study, published in the journal "Sexually Transmitted Infections", links poor fit to reduced usage of condoms. The study also hints that condoms often don't fit because men won't buy anything labeled "small" or "medium".

"Men and their female sex partners may benefit from public health efforts designed to promote the improved fit of condoms," Dr. Richard Crosby of the University of Kentucky and Dr. Bill Yarber of the Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex, Gender and Reproduction in Indiana wrote.

A team of researchers studied 436 men aged 18 to 67. Nearly half -- 45 percent -- said they had used a poorly fitting condom during the previous three months. These men were more than 2 times as likely to say the condom broke or slipped when they used it. They also often reported it was irritating to wear.

The men who wore ill-fitting condoms were twice as likely to report reduced sexual pleasure for themselves and their partners.

The researchers also learned that men won’t touch condoms marked "small" or "medium."

For the sake of having safer and more pleasurable sex, Cosmopolitan suggests that condom makers start using vanity sizes:

"Genius at Oral with a Great Personality" instead of "Extra Small"
"Super Shlong" instead of "Small"
"Regular" would be "Three-Alarm Cock"
"Extra Large" would be "Extra Lube Needed"
"Magnum XL" would be "OMFGnum"
