Red-shirt rally in Pattaya results in decline of tourists - Thailand - Pattaya - Business - tourism


Pattaya city plans to offer 20,000 free hotel rooms to stimulate tourism in the area after the ASEAN plus 3 and 6 summits were ruined by red-shirt protesters, causing 50% drop in the number of foreign visitors.



Pattaya Mayor, Itthipol Khunpluem revealed that the incident in which the red-shirts disrupted the ASEAN plus 3 and 6 summits has negatively affected tourism in Pattaya.

The number of people who took part in Wan Lai day during the Songkran festival was down at estimated 20-30% from last year's number.

Niti Kongkrut, Director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand in Pattaya region also revealed that the total number of visitors have reduced by 50% compared to last year's, as reflected by data collected from entrepreneurs. Tour operators from China, Vietnam, and other parts of Asia have cancelled all trips to Pattaya.
