Monthly meeting of the Pattaya Business and Tourism Association
On Wednesday Night at the Green Park Hotel in Naklua, the monthly meeting of the Pattaya Business and Tourism Association took place. Khun Jumloon chaired the meeting which was also attended by Khun Itipon, the Mayor of Pattaya. In cooperation with the Tourism Council of Thailand a letter has been drafted and sent to the Prime Ministers Officers detailing three points of concern.
The first point demanded action to improve the Tourism Industry by
undertaking promotional campaigns in foreign countries and they demand
that the ASEAN Summit, which was cancelled following unrest here in
Pattaya, should be rearranged as soon as possible. Secondly, they
require assistance from the government to help businesses which are
struggling to pay back loans because of the adverse economic climate.
Finally they require the government to give them 10% of money assigned
to the Economic Stimulus Package so Tourist Destinations can be brought
up to international standards. This would include better access for
disabled tourists and other general infrastructure improvements. Khun
Itipon informed delegates of the proposed 20,000 free hotel room
program which is expected to start in May and is part of a local
stimulus package which the Mayor is organizing to rejuvenate the local
Tourism Industry.
