Thailand's young players will play in the Asian Zone's qualifying rounds of the Thomas Cup and the Uber Cup in Nakhon Ratchasima next week.

They are given a rare chance to represent the country because top stars including siblings Boonsak and Salakjit Ponsana refused to play due to their conflict with the Badminton Association of Thailand (BAT).

The Thomas Cup team are led by Thanongsak Sansomboonsuk and the Uber Cup side are spearheaded by 15-year-old Ratchanok Inthanon.

"It is a rare opportunity for the youngsters to show their skills," said BAT general secretary Surasak Songworakulpan.

"They are not too bad compared to the senior players."

Surasak said the men's team had a better chance to progress to the finals.

The top two teams from each group advance to the knock-out stages with the three best teams going to the finals in Malaysia in May.
