166 die in road accidents during 3 days of Songkran festival throughout Thailand - accident - Thailand


A total of 166 people were killed in road accidents around Thailand during the past three days since the annual Songkran festival has kicked off, officials announced on Thursday.



According to statistics, 1,994 road accidents occured during the period, in which 2,149 people injured, a senior official from the Justice Ministry Uthairat Chaiprasert told a press conference.

The Thai Road Accident Prevention Center has been monitoring road accidents since Monday. The organization noted that most of the accidents happened due to drunk driving and speeding.

The northeastern province of Nakhon Ratchasima recorded the largest number of fatalities, at 11, followed by Ubon Ratchathani with 10.
