Phang Nga Bay 'Fun Regatta' gets underway today

PHANGNGA : Thailand's rapidly growing sailing season gets underway in spectacular fashion today when a big fleet of almost 50 boats sets sail to contest the annual Phang Nga Bay Regatta in picturesque southern Thailand.

PATTAYA : In a world clouded with doom and gloom, there is a bright ray shining at least for Thailand over the Sattahip-Jomtien-Pattaya Eastern Seaboard region. It is an event far removed from the outside turmoil. It is clear skies, sparkling waters and the smiling faces of some 100 young people from more than 40 countries world-wide who will come to Thailand's Eastern Seaboard - to go sailing.	Australia, China, Hong Kong and Thailand all secured qualification in the Techno 293 windsurfer events to be held at the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games.

Thai lass Noppakao Poonpat showed her prowess on the seas when she steered her way to the overall individual title of the IODA Asian sailing championships at Kuah Harbour in Langkawi on Saturday.	Phuket - Thailand was voted the favourite sailing venue in Asia and the Phuket King’s Cup Regatta best regatta in Asia, according to a recent survey. The survey found also that the Regatta generated approximately 40 million baht for the Island economy during the 2009 event.

Singapore won both boy's and girl's YOG qualification events at the Byte CII Asian Championships, whilst Thailand, Malaysia and China all secured their places at the 2010 Youth Olympic Games.	Laura Dekker, a 13-year-old Dutch girl, has been taken into the custody of child protection officers after a court blocked her bid to make a solo sailing voyage around the world.
