Pattaya City Council and tourism-related business in the city are now making all out efforts to woo tourists back to the resort-city in time for this year’s high season, following the most dismal low season ever, with hotel occupancy in June down to 20% of what it was a year previously. Such low figures are essentially due to the combined impacts of the Bangkok airport closures, the Red Shirts’ riots and now swine flu.

Dusit Thani Pattaya has recently appointed Kei Uchiumi as the new Director for Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions (MICE). Mr. Uchiumi’s experience in the hospitality business started with Dusit Thani Bangkok, the flagship hotel of Dusit International, where his two-year stint (2006-2008) as a Sales Manager for the Japanese market led to his promotion as Senior Sales Manager in December last year.
Pattaya Marriott Resort & Spa has won a clutch of top awards at this year’s Marriott Lodging’s Full Service Awards. The winners are chosen from among all the managed and franchised Marriott property in the world and staff at Pattaya Marriott were delighted to be named as winners in five of the 13 categories.

On Wednesday Night at the Green Park Hotel in Naklua, the monthly meeting of the Pattaya Business and Tourism Association took place. Khun Jumloon chaired the meeting which was also attended by Khun Itipon, the Mayor of Pattaya. In cooperation with the Tourism Council of Thailand a letter has been drafted and sent to the Prime Ministers Officers detailing three points of concern.
