Aiming to cut down on how many times sun worshippers are pestered for massages, Pattaya officials will limit the number of masseuses on Jomtien Beach to two per plot, giving priority to Pattaya residents.

Pattaya City Council and tourism-related business in the city are now making all out efforts to woo tourists back to the resort-city in time for this year’s high season, following the most dismal low season ever, with hotel occupancy in June down to 20% of what it was a year previously. Such low figures are essentially due to the combined impacts of the Bangkok airport closures, the Red Shirts’ riots and now swine flu.

Dusit Thani Pattaya has recently appointed Kei Uchiumi as the new Director for Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions (MICE). Mr. Uchiumi’s experience in the hospitality business started with Dusit Thani Bangkok, the flagship hotel of Dusit International, where his two-year stint (2006-2008) as a Sales Manager for the Japanese market led to his promotion as Senior Sales Manager in December last year.

Late on the evening of the 4th May, a total of 30 bargirls stormed into Pattaya Police station to complain to the investigating officer that they had had enough.
