Compared to the bounty of high-end women's boutiques in Seattle, it's slim pickings for men who appreciate finely crafted clothing and accessories. Downtown's Jack Straw Filaments, open since early September, is a gift to those fashion-conscious men of Seattle.



After 25 years in the retail business, working for local luminaries Butch Blum and Mario's, Jack Straw Filaments owner John Richards has created a shop that caters to men who love classic, well-made clothing with a twist.

The space itself is modern without being too stark. The exposed brick walls and roughly hewn wooden surfaces in the front of the store create an earthy appeal that is mimicked in the clothes themselves.

Dominating the center of the store is an innovative, slightly industrial clothing rack that holds jackets, shirts, pants and suits in rich dark tones from designers like Dries Van Noten, Comme des Garcons and Issey Miyake.

Richards does most of his buying in Europe, visiting showrooms in Florence, Milan and Paris to find unique and exclusive brands...
