Canada’s parliamentary turmoil abated, at least temporarily, on Wednesday after an opposition alliance backed down from its efforts to defeat the government.

On Tuesday, the Conservatives presented a budget promising tens of billions of dollars in new spending, much of it in areas like housing that the party has never previously championed.
