Motorcyclist critically hurt in Arlington crash - USA - WA - accident

ARLINGTON, Wash. - A 20-year-old man was critically injured when his motorcycle collided with an SUV Saturday night in Arlington, continuing a string of serious accidents involving motorcycles in the Puget Sound region.

Police and medics were called to the scene, near the intersection of 204th Street NE and 77th Avenue NE, at about 9:10 p.m., said Kristin Banfield, assistant administrator for the city of Arlington.

The motorcyclist was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center with severe injuries. The five occupants of the SUV were unhurt.

The exact circumstances that led to Saturday night's crash are still under investigation.

The collision was the latest in a string of serious accidents involving motorcycles in recent months. At least five motorcyclists have been killed so far this year, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Troopers say the high motorcycle death toll so far in 2009 is a continuation of a trend that began last year.
