Environmentalist enters Seattle mayor's race

Talking tough about the city's schools and local transportation issues, lawyer Michael McGinn announced Tuesday that he's running for mayor against Greg Nickels.

McGinn, 49, said Seattle needs to reboot to deal with the challenges of the deep economic downturn plaguing the city and country.

"We need to prepare for our future," he said. "This isn't a bump in the road kind of thing."

McGinn was a partner at Stokes Lawrence in Seattle before founding the Seattle Great City Initiative in 2006. That group aims to bring people together to make Seattle "a model of economic and environmental sustainability." He was also the local chairman of the Sierra Club.
