Ocean County group to host foreclosure prevention program for professionals
New Jersey real estate agents are being urged to help prevent homeowners from giving up their houses in foreclosure, like this one on Carolina Avenue in Newark. Industry representatives say this will help them gain trust - and clients.
Real estate agents make money on transactions - when houses are bought and sold. So it may seem a bit counter intuitive that the Ocean County Board of Realtors will host a foreclosure prevention program tomorrow for professionals in the industry, potentially blocking transactions.
But if agents help families stay in their homes, that will help stabilize the market, burnish agents' reputations and attract future clients, said Mary Ann Wissel, executive vice president of the Ocean County Board of Realtors.
"You're building trust in the real estate agent to help you stay in your American Dream," she said. "In the long run, if someone helps you stay in your home, wouldn't you turn to them in the future?"
