Diego Maradona's Diamond Stud Earns Italian Tax Man €25,000 - Report
The former Napoli maestro was forced to hand over the earring by the finance police (Guardia di Finanza) back in September in relation to alleged tax evasion during his playing days in Naples.
An auction held at a hotel in the northern Italian town of Bolzano saw the hammer fall at €25,000 and the stud was sold to a lady bidder who had a southern Italian accent, according to La Repubblica.
As expected, a media buzz centred around the hotel as journalists and camera men marauded the building to get a glimpse of the action. But the woman who won the bidding frenzy was protected by a chain of body guards.
