Swine flu shadow over Thai shuttlers 11.08.2009 03:37
Swine flu shadow over Thai shuttlers - Thailand - badminton - Sports

The World Badminton Championships in Hyderabad is hitting the headlines for all the wrong reasons. The Thailand men's doubles team complained of chest pain and the players were taken to a hospital for a check up.

The players complained of fever and weakness and failed to turn up for the event. The Thai players were to play against the Indian doubles player, Akshay Dewalkar and Jishnu Sanyal. Their failure to turn up for the game resluted in the Indian players getting a walkover.

Over 320 players, both domestic and international, may be at risk. Earlier, the coach of the Malaysian team was kept in isolation after showing symptoms of Swine flu. Addressing a conference in Hyderabad, Badminton World Fedration COO, Thomas Lund, said that the likeliness of the coach having contracted the virus was very slim. The coach remains in hospital and his test results are expected within the next 48 hours.
