Thailand were drawn into a tough Fed Cup group yesterday alongside second seeds Uzbekistan, Taiwan and Kazakhstan in the Asia/Oceania Zone Group 1.

The two-group tournament begins today in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia with the winners of each group meeting in a play-off to determine which side reaches the World Group 2 play-offs.

Thailand captain Virat Baerrohim conceded it was a hard draw for Thailand and he believes the country has a 50% chance of finishing at the top of the group.

(...) The top team of each group will play in the final and the winner of the tournament will qualify into the World Group 2 play-offs in April.

Group A: Japan, New Zealand, Indonesia and South Korea.

Group B: Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Taiwan and Thailand.
