Thai veteran golfer Boonchu Ruangkit defeated Philippines' Frankie Miñoza in a playoff Sunday to claim the Aberdeen Brunei Senior Masters, landing his first ever European Seniors Tour victory.

The 53-year-old Boonchu is a five-time Asian Tour winner and the President of the Professional Golf Association of Thailand.

He collected EUR44,332 (about 1.9 million baht) in prize money for his victory.

"I was very nervous for the playoff, and it didn't help that the wind started to blow a little," said Boonchu, who lost a playoff last year at the Brunei Open on the Asian Tour. "But I managed to control my nerves, and I'm just so happy to have won, although I feel a little sorry for Frankie, because he played very well today. I didn't think I could beat him, to be honest."

Chris Williams of South Africa took the third place, while Sam Torrance 65) who is going to play in Thailand this week, finished joint fifth with American Jerry Bruner (70).
