Played out in front of a full house at Bahrain Rugby Football Club, the game was a bruising encounter and produced few try-scoring opportunities.
In the end it was an awesome defensive display and an opportune score from Jonny MacDonald that proved decisive.
Despite an exciting opening to the game, the early exchanges came and went without either side posing much threat to the opposition whitewash.
Instead it was left to Bahrain-born James Love to opening the scoring with a well-struck penalty goal on ten minutes.
A second Love effort from near-on half way feel just short a few minutes later and Hong Kong were able to clear their lines.
Seemingly growing in confidence with each phase of play, the visitors began to threaten out wide, only for MacDonald's intervention to turn the tide.
