Alexander McQueen, British fashion designer, hangs himself days after mother's death
Supermodel Naomi Campbell was among those shattered Thursday by word from London that the brilliant McQueen - despondent over his mother's death - had killed himself at 40.
Campbell, dressed in black, visited McQueen's W. 14th St. store to commiserate with anguished workers and distraught friends - including hair stylist Colin Gold.
"Naomi is absolutely devastated," said Gold, a McQueen friend for 25 years. "She collapsed into my arms. It's just close friends coming to terms with this inside.
"We're all just shocked."
McQueen - whose A-list clients included Lady Gaga and First Lady Michelle Obama - was found hanging inside his $1 million central London flat on the eve of his beloved mother's funeral, British newspapers reported.
Joyce McQueen died Feb. 2, with her son detailing his depression over her death via Twitter.
"Been a f------ awful week but my friends have been great but now i have to some how pull myself together," he wrote on Sunday afternoon. Four days later he was gone.
